Be Heard lunchtime meeting 17 November: Using social media in campaigns
If you've already dipped your toes in the social media pool and are ready to dive in, then don't miss this Be Heard session!
Social media have given PR professionals new tools for reaching people. This month's Be Heard features tips and tricks for successful use of social media in campaigns.
Many of us have our own Facebook pages and may even have tried Twitter. But there's a big jump between keeping in touch with friends and family and using social media professionally.
Emma McCleary from Ideas Shop has used Facebook and Twitter in client campaigns. She will present case studies from the Cancer Society's Daffodil Day, along with a couple of small business examples. She will discuss how to manage risk in using social media and ways of measuring effectiveness.

Entries open for 2010 Gold Quills
Now’s the time to dust off those projects that worked well this year, polish up some words and submit an entry in the IABC Gold Quill awards. There’s big savings on offer if you get your entry in before the 27 January early-bird deadline.
The annual Gold Quills are a rare opportunity to line your work up alongside the world’s best. Every communication project or campaign is a potential winner – even the smallest, most ordinary-seeming activity can have a spark of communications excellence.
New Zealand entries performed exceptionally well at this year’s Gold Quills, taking out six of the 120 awards for communications excellence throughout member countries. For once, that often-overused cliché “punching above our weight” truly described our achievements.
To remind you, this year’s winners included Immigration New Zealand’s MAGNET migrant attraction programme, which won three awards, and the Ministry of Social Development’s “It’s Not OK” family violence campaign gained an excellence award.
Wellington consultant Ann Kennedy-Perkins also won an award for her communications programme supporting the establishment of the New Zealand Transport Agency along with Daniel Piper of Revolution Advertising in Auckland for their 'Skoda Free Fare' campaign.
A Gold Quill gives unparalleled professional recognition to your work, as Department of Labour Marketing Manager Victoria Forrest says: "Winning the Gold Quill Award has enhanced our professional reputation immeasurably. While we always knew that the Magnet programme was world-class, it’s great to have the concrete evidence to prove it!”
Further details, including entry requirements and costs, can be found at www.iabc.com/awards/gq. The final deadline for entries is 3 February 2010.
Member-get-a-member: sign someone up, get three months free
IABC is reprising its popular member-get-a-member campaign – this means you can get yourself three months’ free membership if you sign up a new member before the end of December.
What’s more, it’s cumulative – so you can get three months’ free membership for each new member you refer, up to a maximum of four (which would give you a full year’s free membership).
To claim your reward, ask new members that you refer to include your full name and chapter with their enrolment details. New members must not have been IABC members since 1 October 2008.
